OVERVIEW
Paul Briganti has more than 20 years of experience as a commercial litigator in a broad range of complex matters. For almost his entire career, he has devoted his practice to representing and counseling international and domestic insurance companies in cases involving diverse and novel coverage problems. Paul is recognized for his use of sensible and creative approaches to help achieve his clients’ objectives, whether in the context of litigation, ADR or settlement negotiations.
Paul has substantial experience with coverage issues arising under CGL, cyber, directors & officers, professional liability, employment practices liability, and employers’ liability claims. He also often assists clients facing challenging insurance issues arising from environmental, asbestos and mass tort claims, as well as emerging areas such as climate change and PFAS.
Paul is an editor of the Complex Insurance Coverage Reporter and the author of the Allocation chapter of General Liability Insurance Coverage: Key Issues in Every State. He has published articles on insurance, environmental, intellectual property and fidelity law topics, and served as an editor of the Villanova Law Review while in law school.

REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS
- Successfully advocated for insurer in Rosenberg v. Hudson Ins. Co., No. 22-3275, 2025 U.S. App. LEXIS 3195 (3d Cir. Feb. 11, 2025), which affirmed that no coverage was owed under a homeowners liability policy for claims arising out of the insureds’ concealment of evidence of a crime committed by their son.
- Represented insurer in White Pine Ins. Co. v. Chase’s Auto Salvage LLC, No. 2:23-cv-01707-CB, 2025 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 182017 (W.D. Pa. Sept. 17, 2025), which held that coverage under a commercial auto liability policy for a bodily injury claim was limited to $15,000 despite arguments by the opposing party that up to $750,000 in coverage was available.
- Negotiated favorable settlement for insurer client in matter presenting novel issues arising from dispute over satisfaction of significant self-insured retention
- Represented insurers in dispute in which insured sought to invalid asbestos exclusions and recoup millions of dollars in defense costs and settlements, resulting in jury verdict rejecting insured’s theory
- Represented insurers in multi-million dollar disputes involving decades of alleged environmental contamination arising from various types of manufacturing operations, resulting in favorable appellate rulings
- Advised insurers regarding novel coverage issues arising out of alleged concussion-related injuries to professional athletes and wrestlers
- Represented insurers at trial and appellate levels in disputes over coverage for asbestos-related bodily injury claims involving hundreds of millions of dollars in policy limits
- Represented insurers in multi-million dollar dispute over coverage for property damage caused by defective roofing product, resulting in favorable settlement
- Advised insurer in multi-million dollar dispute over coverage for property damage caused by “blowout” of gas well, resulting in favorable settlement
- Represented insurers in private arbitration proceedings involving multi-million dollar disputes over coverage for asbestos-related bodily injury claims, resulting in favorable settlements
