Overview

Asafu is a senior attorney in the Vorys Columbus office and a member of the labor and employment group, with a focus on immigration, nationality and employer sanctions (I-9) law.  She advises clients across a range of industries, including manufacturing, retail, healthcare, higher education and more.

Asafu’s practice centers on guiding business clients through visa sponsorship and employment-related immigration matters, offering solutions tailored to their specific business needs.  She has extensive experience with both temporary and permanent employment-based visa categories and regularly assists clients with government audits concerning employment eligibility, verification and document retention.

In addition to her work with businesses, Asafu represents individual clients in family-based immigration, naturalization and other immigration benefits.  Before joining Vorys, she practiced family-based and humanitarian immigration law, including asylum law.

Asafu is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).  She has served on conference planning committees and spoken on AILA panels at both the national and chapter levels.  Since February 2022, she has served as the Pro Bono Liaison for AILA’s Ohio Chapter.

Asafu earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and her B.A. from Dartmouth College.  She is a native Japanese speaker.
